After designing and creating a prototype for my bag, I sourced
the materials and made my final accessory. Overall, I am really pleased with
how my bag looks. When I was constructed the bag, I decided to put the pocket
which originally, should have been on the front, inside the bag, this was
because I found it difficult to sew on top of the bag after the wading had been
attached to it, so to prevent the bag looking tatty I put the pocket inside. Having
the pocket inside also means that any items that are placed inside it will have
extra protection, not only from the quilting but it will not fall out the
pocket like it could of if it was on the outside of the bag.
My favourite part of the bag is the lining. I bought a
cotton material as I didn’t want it to be too thick and I chose red as the main
colour for my jacket design is also red which links with my sport of car
racing, where Formula 1 is also associated with the colour red. I also chose
leatherette as it would prevent any water getting through to the inside of the
bag when walking to the car.
If I was to design my bag again, I would use buckram on each
side of the bag to give it more stability. Even though, I like how the bag
falls into place as it is now, I think
if it was stood up with buckram, it would be a lot easier to handle and
to place things in.
Below the images of the bag is the bag garment specification
which gives the details of the bag and what is needed before it goes into
manufacturing.
